Filming Blog: My big acting breakthrough!
Hello everyone, we started filming for our commercial on September 30th, 2021! I was most excited for today because we would be bringing our storyboard to life. My role in the filming process was to be an actor, and although it was more challenging than what I anticipated, I found myself having so much fun throughout the entire process. It was difficult to not laugh or break character when your friends are trying to be professional, but I found that after a couple takes I was getting more into character. The biggest thing that kept us on track was our storyboard because we were very detailed in our instructions and left ourselves very little to improvise on. I am proud of my team because all of our contributions helped ensure that our filming process would be nothing but productive. As we kept filming, the ideas for how we were gonna edit the footage kept flowing and we were feeling inspired. As an actor, I felt like I held a lot of responsibility for the footage we would get because if I did well, the footage would come out good as well. The acting role was fairly easy to do because I received instructions for every move, face, and pose that I did. My teammates were helpful in making me feel more at ease and less awkward because they kept reminding me what our end goal was. Having multiple people acting with you makes everything feel more natural and less nerve-racking. We filmed everything in around 30-35 minutes, which was less time than I originally anticipated but it gave us more time to think about editing choices when we went back to class. We all agreed on certain editing elements we wanted to incorporate so we were all on the same page, and we left the rest of the creative process to our main editor. I was relieved to know that the responsibility of editing and compiling all the footage was not left to me because I am not the best with technology. The best thing about being in a group is that we all have different strengths that help us equally divide the work amongst ourselves. We were lucky that the weather outside was nice, and there were not many people where we were filming. We adapted to the environment pretty quickly, and when there were people blocking our way or interrupting our shots we just readjusted and kept going. I thought that during filming I would end up getting tired or annoyed, but it was in fact the opposite which I am happy to acknowledge. Everyone in my group was patient and happy to be there, which I think really contributes to our final product coming out great. Overall I felt that filming and acting today was beyond enjoyable and I am excited to see how our commercial comes out!
