Filming Blog: My big acting breakthrough!

Image
Hello everyone, we started filming for our commercial on September 30th, 2021! I was most excited for today because we would be bringing our storyboard to life. My role in the filming process was to be an actor, and although it was more challenging than what I anticipated, I found myself having so much fun throughout the entire process. It was difficult to not laugh or break character when your friends are trying to be professional, but I found that after a couple takes I was getting more into character. The biggest thing that kept us on track was our storyboard because we were very detailed in our instructions and left ourselves very little to improvise on. I am proud of my team because all of our contributions helped ensure that our filming process would be nothing but productive. As we kept filming, the ideas for how we were gonna edit the footage kept flowing and we were feeling inspired. As an actor, I felt like I held a lot of responsibility for the footage we would get

Storyboard Blog

Hello, my group has been working diligently and we have produced this storyboard blog together! First Slide: The opening scene is to introduce the audience to our product. For this commercial, it will be the Apple Macbook. We will film a student working on a MacBook as a wide shot. This scene is crucial to emphasize the fact that Macbooks are useful to people of all ages and are easy to use in public spaces as well. This scene creates a story for the commercial. Second Slide: In the second scene, our main goal was to show different tasks the Macbook can accomplish. In this scene, we include the act of using the computer and a student's everyday activities. Since the commercial will be shot at school, the actors will be wearing casual clothing. Editing will incorporate an insert shot of what the student is doing on their Macbook.  Third Slide: Since the commercial is from a student's perspective, the next scene will show the student placing their laptop into their backpack for e

Hello, my team has worked hard to produce a plan for the blog! Props: Since my group and I decided to produce an Apple MacBook, our main prop will be that laptop. Another prop that will be used in filming is a school backpack or whatever a student chooses to carry their school supplies in.  Costumes: In our commercial, two members of the group will represent our subjects trying to convince you to purchase our item. The actors will be wearing casual and school-appropriate clothing. Schedule: On 9/22/21, our group researched conventions of MacBook commercials. On 9/22/21, our group established props, costumes, schedule, location, and a backup plan. On 9/28/21, our group will create a storyboard for our 30-second ad. On 9/30,21, our group will begin the filming process for the necessary shots for our commercial. On 10/6/21, our group will edit and add sound to our commercial. Location: As for our location, our group does not have a set/ main location but will be filmed throughout the scho

Research Blog

Hello, I was able to conduct research with my group and we have decided to do a MacBook commercial! In typical MacBook commercials, the MacBook is displayed with a user that is displayed as a real person, not an actor. Sometimes a famous celebrity will make an appearance.  An Apple commercial will usually sneak in a few features of the product very subtly, like how it is easy to slip the laptop into a backpack and carry it on the go.  Specifically, the MacBook commercials are usually shot in black and white, with still photos being displayed. I believe the intended effect of being shot in black and white is making the commercial more recognizable. Since the MacBook commercials are usually shot in black and white, it is easier to notice that the commercial being shown is an Apple commercial.  To add variety, Apple utilizes people of many different occupations and origins in order to show that their products are for everyone. Musically, they use simple scores that have an inspiring tone.

Hello, I am excited to introduce Willow Rivera, Jacob Pineiro, and Kai Lobban as my groupmates for an upcoming project we have! The project we have been assigned to tackle as a group is a 30-second commercial that is advertising a product or object of our choice. When working in a group, I find that communication is key so everyone is on the same page and in agreement. To ensure we stayed organized throughout the whole process, my groupmates held a meeting to go over aspects of the project such as different roles we could take and what we wanted to advertise in the video. We decided on doing a commercial for a MacBook and wrote up a small draft of what our commercial could potentially look like. I am excited about this project because my groupmates agreed on giving me a role as an actor, which is gonna be a new experience for me. Although I do not have much experience in acting, I feel like I will be able to improvise and learn more as we shoot throughout the day. Something I

Establishing my Blog!

Hello, my name is Lucia Rodriguez and I am currently a sophomore in high school!  I am looking forward to sharing my experiences in this media studies class throughout the year.  I am an avid watcher of many television series and movies, so I am excited to learn about what goes on behind the scenes.  I chose this class because I wanted to get involved in some filming processes and witness the media come to life.  I hope to gain a better understanding of the efforts put into producing these shows.  This class gives me the opportunity to bond with my classmates over this mutual interest and discuss how these industries work.  Something that stood out to me was the amount of time and effort put into creating these different forms of media.  With this class, I will likely be able to understand the difficulty and lengthy processes that these industries have to go through a little bit better.  When we had to create a PowerPoint defining media studies terms I found myself feeling ov
