Editing Blog
Hello everyone, today our teachers gave us the class period to start editing our footage! I was dreading this part of the commercial process the most because I am not very good with technology. The software I thought would be easiest to use was iMovie because I have previously used it for other projects. My group picked out the specific footage we thought came out best and added it into the software. I realized we didn't end up needing the extra footage we took last class period, but it was still nice to have extra instead of too little. I went through a bunch of different songs, but it was difficult to choose because some didn't fit the vibes of our commercial. I eventually was able to pick a song out with my group, and I am so excited to see how it will turn out. As I was going through the footage, I realized that I would have to split some clips and add them onto others because I would break character in the footage. My group wanted to imitate how Apple produces its commercials, so we watched a couple of their videos for reference. I wanted our commercial to have as many similarities as the original Apple commercials. I was not the person doing all the technical stuff on the computer because I didn't have my personal laptop on me, but it worked out fine because one of my groupmates had all the footage on his computer. Even if I was not able to physically edit, I gave all of my input throughout the whole process. Reviewing the footage helped me memorize the different shots we had to take, such as establishing, cutaway, and more. This was important to me because we were learning this previously, and it helps me feel more professional because I know the proper terms. I was very organized so it was easy to piece all of our footage together. I also helped my groupmate in adding the stabilizing shot because it was a bit challenging for him to do on his own. Since the room was kind of noisy, it was kind of distracting and got us off track a couple times but we were very productive overall. My groupmates and I were able to compile most of the footage and add extra effects during this class period, but we still have a couple things left to finalize next class period. I originally was anxious about the editing process but it felt easier since multiple people were giving their input and aiding throughout the process. My team and I have had so much fun working together, and we are one step closer to completing our commercial!
